Vampirism, as I understand it…

*Feel free to let me know if you think any of this information is wrong/misinformed, or if you think I left out something vitally important. My “awakening” has been a very long and slow process, and I won’t ever claim to know everything.*

When most people think of “vampires” they think of a myriad of different things that have been influenced by the media. Such things usually include: dark and sensual creatures who live during the night and fear sunlight (for they burn in it, you see), coffins, a strong hatred for garlic, crosses, and holy water, beings who can only be killed by a stake through the heart or by being beheaded, etc. I’m assuming all of you are familiar with this typical understanding of “vampires”. Many of you are familiar with Dracula, Lestat, Edward (yuck), the vampire from Sesame Street, Count Chocula, and various tv shows including True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, etc… So it would make sense that anyone with this understanding of “vampires” would be skeptical of their existence. Truly, as far as my understanding goes, these types of “vampires” do not exist in our current state of reality and the dimension we are in. (I could go on a tangent about the different levels/states of reality, but it’s not necessary for this post.)

The history of “vampires” is long and tedious. There are many books and websites dedicated to the history, and therefore I feel no real need to go over it. If you are interested in the history and origin of “vampires” I would be glad to direct you to a more informed source than myself. (:

What I will be discussing in this post is the concept of “real” vampyres. Whether or not you believe in their validity, there is a huge and thriving vampyre “community” which exists today. (Many people within the vampyre “community” choose to spell the word with a “y” rather than an “i” to differentiate themselves from the mythological “vampires” of the past, and the modern “vampires” of the media.)

There are five “essential” types of people within the vampyre community: life-stylers, psychic vamps (or “psi” vamps), sanguinarians, hybrids, and donors.

Life-Stylers: Life-stylers are those who like the cultural aspect of vampirism, and the general gothic style. They usually role play as vampyres, and sometimes even drink blood, but they don’t have any real need for it. Life-stylers are not actual vampyres, but simply enjoy the community.

Psychic Vampyres: In order to understand what a psychic vampyre is, one must admit the existence of a basic “life force energy” which all living beings have. Many cultures have names for this energy such as “chi” or “prana”. People have a certain non-physical energy that we need to survive. Psychic vampyres are like energy diabetics. Their spiritual or astral body, or whatever produces this life-force energy, doesn’t produce enough of the energy fast enough. This results in many different symptoms including extreme exhaustion (no matter the amount of sleep), irritability, and a weak immune system. Because psychic vampyres don’t have enough of this energy, they must find it from somewhere else. They have to get that life-force energy from other people, and there are many different methods of doing this. In fact anyone, whether vampyre or not, can give and take energy, they just have to learn how.

Some people have too much energy, so they’re hyper a lot, and may feel agitated. These people are usually magnetically drawn to vampyres. (I’ve drawn quite a few of these sorts of people in my own life. So they have all this energy, and I feed off that energy, and we’re all hyper and annoying, haha) Now many of you might ask “Why can’t they get that energy from different sources? Such as animals or the Earth?” While both animals and the Earth carry energy, the energy is different than the energy we, as humans, run on. Therefore, while we can use that energy, it is not as effective as getting this energy from another human being.

The scary thing about psychic vampirism is that most of them don’t know what they are, so they take energy from people without knowing what they’re doing. It can be very dangerous. It’s called an “Awakening” when a vampyre realizes what he/she is, and how to control it. Many of you might have experienced un-awakened psi vamps in your daily lives. Think about this: Have you ever been around someone who just seemed to drain all the energy out of you? No matter how hard you tried, you always became tired when in their presence? They might have been a psi vamp. (I once dated a guy who would basically suck the life out of me. I’d be just fine, and then he’d pick me up in his car and I would fall asleep within five minutes!)

Most psychic vampyres claim to have some sort of psychic ability as well. I am personally skeptical of those who claim to have the ability to read minds (mostly because that freaks me out. I would prefer for my mind to remain private). However, I have met quite a few people in my life who have extra sensory abilities, whether vampyre or not, so I do not doubt their existence. (I’m an empath, actually.)

Sanguinarian Vampyres: Sanguine vampyres have the same deficiency as psi vampyres, but the ONLY way they can get the life force energy is through blood. I know I previously said that anyone can learn to give or take energy, but with sanguine vampyres, it doesn’t work as well. They have to get it through blood. Blood is the physical storage of life-force energy. Sanguine vamps crave blood, like some people crave food. They get that hungry feeling when it’s time to feed, and they can feel physically when it is time for them to feed again. This craving for blood results in an insatiable hunger, or unquenchable thirst. Many sanguine vampyres have a huge appetite as well.

Young sanguine vampyres can be seen drinking their own blood when they get hurt or the blood of another person. Some show signs even as children. Some might intentionally hurt themselves just to get blood. It’s an instinctual thing, they feel the physical urge to do it. There are many different preferred ways to getting blood. Some actually bite, but I personally wouldn’t ever do that. It can also be gotten through a syringe or by cutting the person with a razor. Sanguine vamps don’t need a lot of blood. A few drops a week usually will work.

If you speak to a Sanguinarian they’ll tell you that they enjoy the taste of blood, and that they feel a sort of high when they ingest it. A “normal” person usually does not enjoy the taste (though there are exceptions) but they certainly won’t get a high from it. In fact, “normal” people throw up when they drink blood because the human body lacks the enzymes to break it down. (It takes quite a bit of blood to cause a “normal” human body to regurgitate, however.)

Hybrid vampyres: Hybrid vampyres are more rare than the other types, and are a combination of both psi and sanguine. Hybrids can be psi vamps who likes blood, or crave blood, or even need it, or they can be sanguines who have learned how to manipulate energy, and can make it work for them, but they’ll generally prefer blood. Or they can be an equal mixture of both. Hybrid vampyres have characteristics of both psychic vampyres and sanguinarians. (I’m a hybrid vampyre myself, which is why I am so interested in the topic, haha.)

Donors: A donor is simply a person who willingly gives up some of their blood or energy to a vampyre. Donors are just as important in the vampyre community as the vampyres themselves. It’s unethical to take energy or blood from someone without their permission, so it’s vital to find a person who is willing to share. Some of you might ask “How does one find a donor?” or “How does one become a donor?” This is one of the most difficult aspects to being a vampyre. Finding someone accepting and non-judgmental of vampirism is hard enough, so finding someone accepting AND willing to be a donor, is even more difficult. Many vampyres can find donors within the BDSM community, as people within that community are drawn to the vampyre community on account of its reputation with darkness and pain. (Though I must stress that reputation came about from “vampires” and not actual “vampyres”.) There are also many vampyre covens (and cults), and donors can also be found online. The beauty of the internet is the vast diversity of people on it. There are quite a few sites dedicated to real vampyres, and the vampyre community, so donors can be found that way. I’ve also known people (myself included) who use the act of getting energy or blood through sexual encounters. (I’ve only had one donor, and she was my ex.) Some people get turned on by the blood thing (me, me, me!!! haha), and sex is a great way to exchange energy.

Now the biggest question: “How does one know that they’re a vampyre?”

There’s a plethora of “symptoms” and “signs” that point to vampirism. But as it’s not seen as a medical issue, it’s really hard to discern which are universal, and which are circumstantial. Some of the most commonly reported “symptoms” include:

- Extreme sensitivity to sunlight (skin burns easily - sunscreen barely works - and light severely hurts the eyes, though no literal burning occurs)*

- Nocturnal tendencies (Night seems to awaken and invigorate, while day is exhausting, all while unconnected to the amount of sleep one gets)*

- Weak immune system (A vampyre will get sick a lot when it’s time to feed, or when they have yet to awaken)*

- Insomnia*

- Hyper awareness

- Fast-growing hair and nails (I have no idea why, ha)*

- Feeling really energetic/awake/manic when around a large group of people*

- Psychic abilities (specifically psi)*

- Insatiable hunger/unquenchable thirst (specifically sanguine)*

- Irritability (specifically when it’s time to “feed”)*

- Blood cravings (specifically sanguine)*

- Intolerance of large groups of people but also an intense need to be around people (Big groups can be overwhelming, and vampyres tend to be more comfortable when alone or with a small group of people. However, their need for other people is great, for that’s how vamps get energy or blood)*

- Paranoia or anxiety*

- Attraction to the macabre*

- A deep felt connection to “vampires” (I find this to be true. Even though we are poorly misrepresented, most vampyres see themselves in “vampires” as they’re the closest beings to us, and therefore a connection to them is felt.)*

- Some claim to have natural fangs, but usually only sanguines have them

- Vivid nightmares*

- Metallic taste in the mouth, similar to the taste of blood (Specifically sanguine, when it’s time to “feed”)*

* = The “symptoms” I have experienced myself (Almost all of them, haha)

If you think you are a vampyre:

1: GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR. I cannot stress this enough. Many of the symptoms I listed above are symptoms of serious medical issues. If you are experiencing a lot of these symptoms it’s important to rule everything else out. Otherwise, you might think you’re a vampyre when you’re actually not, and a serious medical issue could get worse when unchecked. I would advise you not to tell your doctor that you might think you’re a vampyre. Just tell your doctor about the symptoms and leave it at that.

2: Get as informed as possible. There are many different points I didn’t address in my post (such as how to manipulate energy, or how to protect yourself from an un-awakened vampyre), and I am not the Over Lord of Vampyres who holds all the knowledge. :P Get information from many different sources. The most important thing in life is to be as informed as you can be. Never stop learning! (Books and websites are your friends!)

3: Consciously be aware of how others act around you. This can be a huge indicator of how your energy is interacting with theirs. If you find that you do believe you are a vampyre, concentrate on controlling your vampirism so you do not take energy from people who are not aware of your condition.

4: Talk with other vampyres. Talking to people who have been in similar situations as you can teach you a lot just by telling you about their own experiences. Learn from them, and their mistakes. It also feels really amazing to talk with like-minded and accepting people.

5. No one can tell you if you are a vampyre or not. It’s something you know, and figure out on your own. There’s no standard “test”. It’s just like finding out that you’re gay. No one can tell you if you are gay or not. You just know, or you figure it out. There’s no “test”. If you are totally confused, I would suggest meditating. That usually helps me sort out my problems.

I must remind you that vampyres are humans. We have feelings, and live every day lives just like you. We just have a deficiency which requires us to make up for it in other ways. I will not tolerate any prejudice or hatred anywhere near my blog. Thank you. (:

Some sources to look into:

- Don Henrie: (He’s a hybrid vampyre who was made famous for being on the reality tv show Mad Mad House, for being on an episode of Tyra Bank’s show, and for being in a documentary-style tv show called Is It Real? (done by National Geographic). His website is currently disabled, but his Facebook Page is here ——> http://www.facebook.com/pages/Don-Henrie/140060182685023
